Nepal Makes History: Beats West Indies in Dream T20 Series

Nepal put on a commanding performance to seal their first-ever T20I series victory against a full ICC member—West Indies—with a stunning 90-run win in the second match in Sharjah.⁣

Choosing to bat first, Nepal set a formidable total of 173/6 in 20 overs. Top performers included Aasif Sheikh (68 off 47)* and Sundeep Jora (63 off 39), who stitched together a crucial 122-run partnership after early wickets threatened to derail the innings. Their recovery was vital after Nepal slumped to 16/2 early on.

When West Indies batted, they never recovered. They were skittled out for just 83 runs in 17.1 overs. Some standout bowling:

  • Mohammad Aadil Alam took 4/24
  • Kushal Bhurtel chipped in with 3/16
  • These efforts sealed a dominant victory for Nepal.

A few records and notes:

  • Nepal’s 90-run margin is now the largest victory by an Associate side over a Full Member in T20Is.
  • For West Indies, scoring 83 runs in a T20I is among their lowest totals against an Associate team.
  • This result gives Nepal an unassailable 2–0 lead in the series with one match remaining.

What This Win Means

Nepal’s win is not just a statistical upset—it’s symbolic. Beating a cricketing power like the West Indies in such emphatic fashion elevates Nepal’s status on the international stage. It shows their progress isn’t limited to close matches—they can dominate.

For West Indies, this loss raises questions about depth and consistency, especially when relying on bench strength. Their batting faltered early, exposing vulnerabilities under pressure.
