Bank Holiday: Durga Puja to Gandhi Jayanti—State by State

As India observes the festive season of Durga Puja, Navratri, and Dussehra, many states will see bank branches shut at different times between 29 September and 5 October 2025. These regional closures follow the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar and festival observances across states.

Key Holiday Dates & Affected States

  1. September 29 (Monday): Banks will be closed in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati for Maha Saptami, the seventh day of Durga Puja.

  2. September 30 (Tuesday): Maha Ashtami / Durga Ashtami causes closures in multiple cities including Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Jaipur, Imphal, and Kolkata.

  3. October 1: Several states including Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar will observe holidays for Navami / Dussehra / Ayudha Puja.

  4. October 2 (Thursday): A pan-India holiday is observed for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti + Dussehra / Vijaya Dashami, affecting all states’ bank operations.

  5. October 3–4: In Sikkim, banks remain closed for regional Durga Puja observances (Dasain).

  6. October 5: A regular Sunday closure nationwide.

These state-wise holidays mean bank services like branch transactions, cheque clearing, and in-person services will be unavailable on affected days. However, digital banking (online banking, NEFT, RTGS, UPI) will remain functional, and ATM services should continue to work.

If you live in or travel across states, it’s wise to check your state’s holiday schedule before visiting a branch. Plan heavy banking tasks before or after these festive dates to avoid inconvenience.
